A Happy Journey Starts Like That!
The Public Transport Council, in partnership with the Land Transport Authority, the two public transport operators, SMRT and SBS Transit and the Singapore Kindness Movement, has embarked on a drive to spread the courtesy message to commuters.
Posters and character stickers featuring Singapore’s favourite contractor, Phua Chu Kang and his wife, Rosie have been put up at MRT trains, MRT stations, buses, bus stops, and bus interchanges to encourage commuters to be gracious when travelling on public transport. A special rap featuring the loud but lovable Phua Chua Kang was also developed to drive home the graciousness message.
In addition, during the period of 28 May to 3 June, we had 'spotters' looking out for commuters who display acts of graciousness. Those spotted with their gracious acts were presented with a $10 EZ-link card. Commuters were 'caught' for letting others alight first, giving up your seat or making space for others by moving to the centre of the train or to the rear of the bus.
Gracious behaviour on our public transport system leads to pleasant journeys for all, and it always takes two hands to clap. If someone gives up his seat for you, be gracious enough to accept, and just say thank you. A happy journey starts like that!
